Visa / Entry

Citizens of the EU / EFTA only need to bring a valid passport and do not need a visa for stays shorter than 3 months.

How to get to Bern

There are several options to reach Bern:

Train
Switzerland's public transport and especially the railway system offer many direct connections to Bern or other Swiss cities from destinations including Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Hungary and others.
Pick-up service at Zurich Airport: If you arrive in Switzerland via Zurich Airport train station (e.g. if you travel from the Eastern or Northern parts of Europe) you might consider using our pick-up service (free of charge) on July 14. For details, please refer to the "Pick-Up Service" and "Arrival before July 14" section in the Arrival Day menu once logged in.

Flights
There are several international airports in Switzerland most of which are suitable to reach Bern.
Pick-up Service: For your convenience, a pick-up service will be organized from Zurich and Bern-Belp airport to Bern on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Furthermore, when arriving on Zurich airport on July 13, we have arranged for hotels close to the airport offering special prices for all IBO guests. Please refer to the "Pick-Up Service" and "Arrival before July 14" section in the Arrival Day menu in our login part.

  • Bern-Belp Airport (BRN)
    This small airport offers connections to various destinations, mainly within Europe.
    Duration from airport to Bern city centre by public transport: about 30 minutes
    Price for a one way ticket per person to Bern: CHF 6.40
  • Zurich Airport (ZRH)
    Zurich Airport is Switzerland's biggest airport offering worldwide connections.
    Duration from airport to Bern city centre by public transport: about 1 hour 30 minutes
    Price for a one way ticket per person to Bern: CHF 53.00
  • EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse (BSL)
    Smaller than Zurich but also offering worldwide connections.
    Duration from airport to Bern city centre by public transport: about 1 hour 30 minutes
    Price for a one way ticket per person: CHF 43.20
  • Geneva Airport (GVA)
    Equally offering a broad variety of worldwide connections but with a longer journey to Bern.
    Duration from airport to Bern city centre by public transport: about 2 hours
    Price for a one way ticket per person: CHF 53.00

Car / Coach
Travelling to Bern by private car or coach is also possible. However, you will have to arrange and pay for your own parking space (car parks, hotel car parks). Meeting point will be at the Bern train station (see the meeting point section in the Arrival Day menu once logged in).
